Figure Skating Grand Prix -event in November to Helsinki

The Finnish Figure Skating Association has once again been granted the opportunity to organize a figure skating Grand Prix -event, which will be named the ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy. The event will take place from November 15th to 17th, 2024, at the Helsinki Ice Hall. This same venue will host the Marie Lundmark Trophy, an international Challenger Series Synchronized Skating competition, in February 2024 and the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in April 2025.

The Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy will bring about 60 of the world’s top figure skating skaters to Helsinki in Women’s and Men’s Single Skating, Ice Dance, and Pairs Skating. The International Skating Union (ISU) decided to award the competition to Finland at its meeting held in January.

The Finnish Figure Skating Association is known as a high-quality and experienced organizer of international competitions. This is one reason why world-class skaters return to compete in Finland year after year. Being granted the right to host a prestigious Grand Prix Series -competition, alongside major figure skating countries such as Canada, the United States, and Japan, demonstrates Finland’s status as one of the world’s leading competition organizers.

– We are delighted that the figure skating Grand Prix -event is returning to Helsinki, and the people of Helsinki will get to witness top-level figure skating. We also hope that international fans will find their way to Helsinki, as they did for the 2018 Grand Prix -competition, says Tarja Loikkanen, Sports Director of the City of Helsinki.

– Our operations have been based on strong cooperation with the cities of Helsinki and Espoo when organizing international competitions,” says Salla Mäkelä, Executive Director of the Finnish Figure Skating Association. In addition to bringing the world’s top skaters to Finland, the GP Series event provides an excellent opportunity for Finnish top skaters to participate in a highly competitive and quality event, continues Mäkelä.

Ticket sales for the event will begin in August. This is an excellent opportunity to see the world’s best in skating and experience a top-class sport event in Finland.
